12/28/02      Plans for next year's party are underway

The 2003 Montgomery Christmas party will take place on Saturday, December 20, 2003!  The Brighton Town Lodge has been reserved for this day and plans are underway for next year's party.  We are looking for one or more persons to help coordinate and plan the next event to give Don and Judy a break (or at least help).  The responsibilities include planning games, activities, and food, sending out invitations and reminders, ordering food, organizing what people need to bring, buying prizes, and collecting money from people (if required).  Any help will be appreciated.  At this point, the plans for next year's party are for a shorter event sometime in the afternoon with a simple dish to pass theme for munchies and dessert instead of a big meal.  The party will be held between lunch and dinner and will start off with opening our "greatest gifts" from this year (which we forgot to do at this year's party!) and singing songs (which we never seem to a good job organizing).  Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.      HAPPY NEW YEAR!

12/26/02      The pictures are here!

Here are some of the pictures taken at this year's party.  Everyone seemed to be having a great time!

12/20/02      Only 2 More Days!  Here's a Nature Walk Update

For those of you planning to enjoy the holiday nature walk around the pond and through the woods, make sure you bring BOOTS, GLOVES, HAT, and a warm JACKET with you on Sunday!  You may also want to bring binoculars, a camera, a compass, and a backpack if you want to experience the full ambiance of the event!  I visited the park on Thursday to plan a route and check on the condition of the trails.  The trails were a little muddy in spots, but that should freeze up by Sunday.  The west side of the pond has a sidewalk and the best goose viewing area.  The deer stay mostly on the east side near the woods, however they do cross over to the west side using a narrow trail along the south shore of the pond that borders the expressway. There is a very interesting view of the expressway system from the park trail, especially from a park bench situated high atop the hill just outside of the woods.  The bench faces west and provides a grand viewing area for a sunset.   Amazingly, there are benches scattered everywhere throughout the trail - even in the woods!  I saw squirrels, a deer, two different kids of geese, a duck, and some other birds.  Here is a map showing the layout of the park that I created yesterday using an aerial photo and my own personal observations from my preliminary visit:

12/17/02      Craft  Update

Amy has been searching every craft store in Monroe county to find the right beads we need to make our bead ornaments.  So far they have been very difficult to find, but persistence on her part has paid off for at least some of the colors needed for the designs she has planned.  She has found 1,080 red tri-beads and 1,080 green ones!  This means we will be able to make Christmas wreaths.  She has also been very busy baking salt dough cookies for us to decorate.  The salt dough has to bake for an hour and a half and gets very hard.  There will be paint and brushes to decorate the cookies, which will make unique personalized tree ornaments or package decorations that can be preserved forever with varnish!  Be prepared to bring your creativity with you to make some really fun Christmas crafts.

THANKS AMY (just call her the craft lady)!

12/13/02      Christmas is Almost Here!

Amy has planned some great crafts for the party.  We will be making beautiful bead ornaments and decorations during the early afternoon.  We are making some final adjustments to the agenda.  Any other ideas?

12/6/02      Party Expenses Exceed Money Collected

Due to a smaller number of invitees replying with payment than originally expected, costs per individual attending are a bit higher than planned.  In order to offset these costs, it has been decided by the planning committee that some of the expenses originally planned to be covered by the per-person charge will be divided among some of the attendees who have volunteered to pitch in a little extra.  In addition to bringing a dish to pass for brunch and a general snack, the following persons have been assigned these additional items.  THANKS TO ALL FOR THE EXTRA HELP!  There will also be a dollar raffle for a beautiful gift to help raise money to offset some of the unexpected party expenses.
